How can I make my flowers last longer?

Some types of fresh cut flowers last longer than others. We offer the following tips on making sure you get the best vase life out of your beautiful flowers.

Temperature and placement

Keep your flowers in a cool area away from direct sunlight and heating vents. Be sure not to place them near anything that gives off heat such as TVs and microwaves. Avoid leaving your flowers in the car.

Keep flowers away from fruit. Fruit emits ethylene gas which can cause buds to remain closed, and flowers to have a shortened vase life

Cut flowers (bouquets)

• Fill a vase with fresh water and add flower food. Make sure the vase is clean, as bacteria harms flowers.
• Cut approximately 2cm off the stems at an angle. Remove any leaves that may fall below the waterline.
• Top up the water regularly and remove any flowers that may have died as they occur.

Arrangements

• Top up with water regularly. Some of our arrangements have a plastic water container that needs topping up and other arrangements have Oasis (green foam) which needs to stay wet. By topping these up daily, you'll get the best life out of your flowers.
• Protect your furniture by placing a mat under the arrangement.
